I believe in the power of embracing all parts of yourself, including the emotions that may seem unwelcome or uncomfortable. This is the essence of Heartfelt Mindfulness: a compassionate practice that encourages you to acknowledge and accept every emotion as it comes, without judgment or resistance.
The Struggle with Emotions
Have you ever tried to "make friends" with your emotions, only to feel ashamed or frustrated when they don't behave as you'd like? Maybe there's a part of you that's angry at your sadness or disappointed in your inability to stay positive. It's a common struggle—one that many of us face. We push these emotions away, berate ourselves, and often end up feeling even worse.

The Sufi poet, Jalaluddin Rumi, beautifully captures this idea in his poem, The Guest House:
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Rumi's words remind us that every emotion, no matter how difficult, has value. Each one is a guest, a guide, helping us to grow and understand ourselves more deeply.
